Implementing
Writer's Workshop in the Classroom
Four years ago I began
using something called Writer's Workshop in my classroom. I
wasn't exactly sure what it was, but it was a huge buzzword around
the school and county I teach in. I thought, why not? I
spent the next year bumbling through Writer's Notebook, the Writing
Process and the overall organization of this mysterious "workshop."
I had no idea what I was doing!
The next summer I took a two week course given by my county
called Writer's Workshop and my eyes were opened! I saw
the (oops!) error of my ways the past year and had an entire new
outlook on the teaching of writing. The next year was an eye
opener.
Although I do not follow the Writer's Workshop exactly, I have found
a method to the madness that suites my teaching style. I am
still tweaking and changing each year, but every year I have been
pleased with how the students grow as writers.
Please click on the links below to see how I run my version of
Writer's Workshop.
I found this amazing
link from a teacher in California. It should give you some
wonderful ideas for readers AND writers workshop!
I hope this
information is helpful.
